Dougs Custom Lures 5" Core Shot Stick Baits
"The core shot is the same bait with a different visual trigger. Same body, same fall, same rigs — but that transparent outer layer over the core changes what fish see when they close in on it. In clear water or on pressured fish, that difference matters. I throw it when I know they've seen a lot of the standard color and I need to give them something that looks just a little different."
Same Body. Different Visual. More Strikes.
The DCL 5" Core Shot Stick Bait is built on the same cigar profile and fall action as the standard stickbait — same five rigs, same side-to-side wobble, same all-season versatility. The difference is what bass see when they close in. A transparent outer layer over a solid color core creates depth and flash that a solid-color plastic can't replicate.
The two-layer construction changes with the angle of light. On the fall, the core shifts and flashes through the clear outer shell — the bait looks alive even when it's barely moving. In clear water or on pressured fish that have seen a lot of solid colors, that visual difference is often the difference between a follow and a strike.
Rig it the same way you'd rig any stickbait. Let the construction do the extra work.
The transparent outer layer over a solid core creates a depth and flash that single-color plastics can't replicate. The bait looks alive even at rest — the core shifts in appearance as the light angle changes.
Same 5-inch cigar profile and side-to-side fall action as the standard stickbait. Every rig that works on a solid stickbait works here. The difference is what bass see when they close in.
In clear water or high-pressure situations where fish have seen a lot of solid-color baits, the layered construction gives them something they haven't rejected yet. The core shot is the finesse upgrade to a classic profile.
- The core shot construction is most visible on the fall. Keep slack in your line so the bait wobbles freely and the core can catch light — a tight line during the fall kills the action and the visual.
- In clear water, fish will follow before committing. Let it sit after the fall before moving it — that extra second often turns a follower into a strike.
- The transparent outer layer is more delicate than a solid bait. Use an O-ring on the wacky hook to preserve the body longer — you'll get significantly more fish per bait.
- The core color matters most in stained water. In clear water, the outer layer and flash from the two-layer construction are the primary triggers — fish are reacting to depth and movement, not just color.
- Core shot baits can bleed color onto lighter-bodied baits in storage. Keep them in their own resealable bag.
