Dougs Custom Lures 2.5" Ned Craw Soft Plastic Finesse Craw
"The Ned Craw is what I reach for when nothing else is working. Cold front, midday sun, post-spawn — any time bass get lockjaw on bigger baits, I downsize to this. The claws flutter on the fall and that's usually all it takes. It's my confidence bait."
Built For The Tough Bite.
The Doug's Custom Lures 2.5" Ned Craw is a compact finesse craw built for the situations where big baits get refused. Its small profile and flutter-action claws produce natural movement that triggers strikes from pressured bass, post-front fish, and anything holding deep and tight.
Salt-impregnated for hold time and poured in Milwaukee to Doug's spec — slightly buoyant so it floats naturally on a Carolina rig or drop shot, claws spread, looking exactly like a real craw on the bottom.
When the bite dies and everyone else is switching to bigger baits — go smaller. Go to this.
Thread it onto a 1/16–3/16 oz mushroom head. Cast to structure, let it fall on slack line, and drag slow. The claws flutter on every movement — this is the standard for a reason.
Nose-hook it on a drop shot rig 12–18" above the weight. The claws hang down and flutter on every shake. Deadly for suspended fish over offshore structure.
Long leader, heavy weight up front, Ned Craw floating freely behind. It glides and flutters with zero angler input — Doug's cold-front secret on open sand and gravel transitions.
Trimmed and threaded on a micro finesse jig, the Ned Craw skips flat and true under docks. Let it free-fall in the shade on slack line — most bites happen before it hits bottom.
- Go lighter than you think. In clear water, drop to a 1/16 oz head. The slower the fall, the better the claw action — and that's where the bites come from.
- Let it sit. The Ned Craw doesn't need you to work it hard. Cast, let it fall, drag it two feet, stop. Most bites happen in the pause.
- Post-cold-front fish love this bait more than anything. Slow down, fish it on light fluoro, and put it right in front of them on bottom.
- Smallmouth love it. On rocky structure and gravel transitions in clear water, the Ned Craw on a light head is one of the most consistent smallmouth baits Doug throws.
- Watch your line, not the rod. Finesse bites are subtle — a quick jump or tick in the line is often all you get. Keep the slack out and stay focused.
